DDR Section on this website

New on the website is a reference page with DDR collection artifacts. The last 10years, a huge increase was seen in the number of enthousiast who collect DDR militaria. Especially early DDR material from the end of the 40'ties to the early 60'ties are difficult to find and are a real challenge (and good fun) to collect. I hope the DDR section will be of interest to some and will try to expand it further in the future. Johan

I'm especially excited when it comes to communication equipment. A few weeks ago - during the holidays - I set up a mannequin of a telegraph trooper of the 7th Bavarian Infantry Regiment.

I'm planning to add some more pictures of items in the section 'The Collection'.

Clicking on a photo will always show a larger image, but for some, a new web page will be opened with several additional pictures.
The item will then have the blue color description "Click on the photo for more pictures. "

Work has started today together with the editor, and the expectation is to have a first proof ready for reading by COB end of next week. This is a first proof version of the manuscript without pictures and layout settings.

Reports – continued

Four new reports were added today for our Italian militaria collecting friends. They are all contributions of M.R. and describe 1. Italian Ophthalmic Vaseline cans for mod 1916 gas mask, 2. Italian gas mask can for the 'Maschera polivalente a protezione unica', 3. Italian WW1 caps for E.M and Officers - pictorial overview and finally 4. The Italian Adrian helmet.

New Website category : "Reports"

Today, I started adding a new category to the website, called 'Reports'.

These reports are the "best" webpages which are featured on the old Before 1919.. website.

The first report shows many photographs of a medical veterinary tool box for horses. I owned it many many years ago and it was eventually sold to a museum in Belgium. I regret now selling it :(

More reports will follow soon.

Russian Uniforms and Equipment Book

The manuscript of the book "Imperial Russian Uniforms and Equipment, 1907-1917" has been finalized and is with the publisher. Editing, etc. will start late 2009 and the book with probably in Schiffers catalog of Jan-Feb 2010.

Welcome to the new 'Before 1919...' website and blog. The site will contain information about past and new militaria publications and projects related to WW1 Uniforms and Equipment, written by Johan Somers.
